The ice conditions are unsafe due to the warm weather.
There were a couple of ATV's that went through the ice on Lake Alice.
Extreme caution is needed at this time on the lakes.
I will be at the St. Paul Ice Show, located in St. Paul, Minnesota from Dec. 1-3. For more information on this event please follow the link.
My booth is located at the Roy Wilkins Auditorium on the street level near the seminar stage.
Fished several small lakes this weekend with minimal success. Fished Devils Lake for walleyes Saturday evening and we caught 9 fish that were between 14' and 17'.
ICE CONDITIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS:
The smaller lakes had between 8-10' of ice on them, with several areas of open water located around the edges and in the middle.
Devils Lake has a lot of open water from West Bay to East Devils Lake.
All the Bridges have open water.
Lake Alice and Lake Irvin also have open water on them.
USE EXTREME CAUTION WHEN TRAVELING ON ALL AREA LAKES!
If you go out fishing, take life jackets, ropes and ice picks with you. I recommend that you don't go out by yourself and also let someone know where you are going.
Temperature is anywhere between 20-30 below zero with 40 -50 wind chill
Despite the cold weather fishing has been good this past week, my clients and I have been able to catch some perch with a few walleyes mixed in. These were caught in the range of 12 - 40 feet of water.
Even though it has been cold in Devils Lake, the ice is still unsafe.
3 pickups went through the ice in the past week,
If you are traveling on the ice use extreme caution!
Make sure to drill holes ahead of you, especially when going off the main paths.
The walleye bite continues to be very strong with morning and evening bites. We have gotten our limit on several occasions.
Been caught in 10-25 ft of water.
The northern pike fishing is excellent right now with lots of big fish. This week we've landed several fish between 36-40"
The perch fishing has been good out in deeper water. However, we have been struggling with the up and down cold fronts, which have shut the bite down.
The walleye fishing was excellent over the weekend, With lots of fish between 15"-18".
Also had 8 walleyes we released that were over 22", the largest being 26".
And the Northern Pike did not let us down again. Most of the fish were between 3 - 5 pounds. We had several large fish follow up right to the boat
